Shawn - the barrel is Nitrided. Makes for more accurate shooting, in the opinion of may familiar with both chrome-lined and nitrided barrels. The chrome lining was conceived for the military, with the objective of making the barrels last longer under sustained automatic fire conditions. We, as civilian shooters, will most likely never wear out a barrel anyway, so why not go for the one that is believed to be more accurate? I've been shooting M-16s and AR-15 since the early 70s, and I will select a non-chrome-lined barrel every time.
