This slide on this model isn't milled for optics mounting from the factory so it would either require some gunsmithing, one of the large rail mounts that wraps around the slide to the pistols' accessory rail, or a dovetail mount like this: https://outerimpact.com/shop/red-dot-adaptermount-smith-wesson-mp-pistol-m-r/ which would unfortunately replace the rear sight.

Kimberly. This S&W M&P is not optic ready the way it sits. Trijicon makes a red dot/optic mounting plate system that can be used on not optic ready handguns. Trijicon makes the accessory for Glock, S&W, and other brands.
