Michael - the purchase/possession of a suppressor requires approval by the ATF and payment of a $200 tax stamp you will need before you can take possession of the suppressor. Wait times now are over a year for the tax stamp. The $200, plus the cost of the suppressor - can add up to some real bucks just to enjoy a partial reduction of noise from the firing of the firearm. Actually, "Reducer" would be a more appropriate name for the device, rather than 'silencer'.

Michael, No permit, but plenty of red tape. First know what your state law is on possession of a suppressor. Here in WI. Just order as normal. BUDs will email you to confirm you ordered class lll item. Need to have it sent to FFL that can accept class lll items. BUDs will take up to 8 weeks to ship. When FFL receives it complete a Form 1 along with normal FFL paperwork. Send off to ATF with $200 check and wait a while. Most FFLs charge more than normal transfer fee for Class lll items. If you don't get approved it goes back to BUDs and you get refund minus 20%. If you can legally get firearm should be no problem. I have a NFA trust for my Class lll items.
