Short action .308, Dean. Source? The .308 cartridge is a short-action cartridge. A rifle's action is dependent on the cartridge. The .308 is the basic short-action cartridge, as it was created by shortening the 30.06. I guess my source is having lived 66 years, and dealing with firearms for 60 of those years.
