sorry there is no way of knowing until you get the S/N and no springfield 1911 is made in america the frames and major parts are made in Brazil some guns are assembled in the USA

Quintin, Called SA here is response: Several years ago, Springfield cut all ties with Imbel. Imbel made all pretty much all SA 1911's, or parts. The N and WW serial numbered guns were fully built in Brazil by Imbel. The NM marked frames were forged there and finished here. That's according to Deb from SA anyway. When they cut ties, they started sourcing material here. I was told that both my RO's were made here in the US from US made goods. They won't say who they source their parts from though, or who makes the forgings. It's been bandied about on the 1911 forum for several years. There was confirmation, but no real answers.

Quinton - Truth is, seems no one really knows for sure except Springfield, and they aren't talking .. sadly. What I do know for sure(from personal experience) is that the Range Officers are some good quality 1911s, and they get great overall reviews. While a minor problem is reported here and there, the general opinion throughout the 1911 community is a very positive one. I know mine has been flawless - but overall they won't compare with a Dan Wesson 1911, which seem to be some of, if not THE best, of production 1911s
