Walter G -Yes indeed - one big recommendation. Get her involved before you pruchase. Let her decide what she likes. Go to a range and maybe rent a couple and let her try them. Believe me, the gals have their own ideas about what they like, and what they want. Much better to spoil a 'surprise' and end up with something she actually wants, rather than something we big ol' tough men think she should carry. She can look over several different ones, hold them, and shoot at least a couple of the ones she likes. She may end up liking a S&W Shield, a Sig 938 maybe, or one of the smaller Glocks. But I guarantee you .. if she gets the one she likes, she will enjoy shooting it much more, and will actually carry it (if that's the goal) rather than leave it home in a drawer. And she will appreciate it all the more. (YES - I speak from experience! LOL)
Walter, a trip to a local gun shop that rents firearms with a range is your best bet. Your wife will instinctively know what feels right for her. She will be introduced to shooting and will likely carry the firearm "She" chooses on a more consistent basis. Let the ultimate decision on which pistol be hers and you will likely have a new shooter for life. She will appreciate having had input in her new carry piece.
