John, If a barrel on a firearm was marked ".223 only" that is what I would shoot. I would not shoot 5.56 Nato no matter what the description says. That's just me.

If it was chambered in 556 I would say yes to 223! But since it's chambered in 223 I would not shoot 556 out of it unless the company says it's okay. You can hurt yourself accidentally.
