I have a Ruger AR 556 that I've had for a year now,and while I've shot it several times I have yet to put a sling on it....because it doesn't come with a front swivel. Will this one work on mine?

Jason, no Sir.  This is made to drill into a wood stock. Depending on if your hand guard is M-LOK, KeyMod or Quad Rail, you could use a Picatinny Sling Mount  :   https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/711014665/front+sling+adapter
