The Ruger Mark IV Hunter comes with a red fiber optic front sight. Do I need to add a rail and third party red dot sight? Will it improve my accuracy?

A red dot or reflex sight will make it much easier to shoot accurately. This pistol comes drilled and tapped for a rail to mount an optic on. I'd go with a 2 moa dot or smaller for accurate shooting on small targets.

John, I would train first with the supplied Sights to get a gauge on accuracy. If it is good you may be ok, if not, then you can try a red dot later.

I tried the red dot on my Ruger MK III and I shot worse with it. I kept chasing the dot instead of just shooting. I suggest shooting it as it comes for a while then if you are not happy or just want to try a red dot you can always get one then
