Shaun at 40 yards you should be able to hit between the eyes and ears and wast no meat. Just sayin

I think shot placement will be more important to minimizing meat damage that any bullet selection neck or lung with a good expanding bullet will do the least meat damage and give a good clean kill. Test and look for the ammo that is the most accurate in your gun

Shaun, Get that good shoulder shot. Little meat wasted when you blow the heart or lungs up. Find an accurate round (with your own practice) whatever caliber you choose. Every firearm is a little different. You have to find what works in your firearm. Make a good shot. Good luck this fall.

Shaun, the 270 will be fine with a heavier/slower 150gr load Sir. As the .270 gained popularity with U.S hunters, negative opinions also arose. The premium mono-metal bullets like Hornady GMX or Barnes TSX will ruin the least meat. It eats a hole through the animal without being explosive. I've actually shot some deer with these bullets.
