Michael, Personally I prefer Taurus PT1911. Ambi features, Novak sight setup, tighter tolerances, smoother action. The RIA has parkerized slide and rails, barrel and locking grooves. Need time to wear off or sand off yourself. RIA says 500 round break in directly from manual. Better warranty with Taurus.
Rock Island hands down is better. Taurus has very spotty quality control. I've owned RIA's and shot them competitively and they last. I see Taurus fail repeatedly and wear out prematurely. I have a friend right now who has been waiting since February for Taurus to fix his pistol and return it.
I have both hands down better customer service with RIA Ria is the most accurate my taurus is a better looking finish but for a shooting gun it is RIA hands down they both have a lifetime warranty for the best RIA step up to the ultra or tactical II series you will get a lot more features for not much more cost
Michael, the RIA will have a much tougher and longer lasting finish which is huge for me since function and features are very similar including accuracy. Both RIA and Taurus have come a long way in improving their pistols from just a few years ago. That being said, I own two Taurus Pistols (and am very satisfied) and Two RIA Pistols (and am very satisfied). That being said, I shoot them all equally and they all perform excellent for budget 1911's with the RIA doing it looking better finish wise. PS. Buds Lifetime warranty is low cost and well worth the peace of mind : https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/warranties.php
