Michael, I would contact Springfield with your "Serial Number" and they can tell you precisely what 1911 you purchased including build date at 1-800-680-6866 or (309) 944-5631.

It's a "Mil-Spec" gun but is upgraded to "NM" National Match specs and has a stainless match barrel. Hence the NM in the serial number.

Michael, I think you should be very happy. Here is a response I got from SA.---------- Springfield uses the prefixes of "N" and "NM" to designate 1911-A1 type pistols, just as we used "AM" as the prefix for the P9 series of pistols. The only pistols which use the national match frames are the complete custom pistols built through our custom shop. These pistols have "Springfield Custom" etched on the slide, and will have the "NM" prefix to the serial number. If "NM" prefix and no "Springfield Custom" etching designates all assembled in Geneseo, IL.
