I'm planning on buying a CA compliant shotgun. I'm not quite sure if shotguns and rifles are even legal to possess in Massachusetts even if it's for home defense. People say you will get arrested if you declare an unloaded firearm at the airport. Is this true?!
Someone also said "I was born and raised in MA and they are one of the most anti-gun states in the union." In this case, would my best bet be flying out JFK, New York rather than Boston? Someone please help me out.

Evelina, There will be no issues with a "Pump" Shotgun in MA or California for that matter.  Just call your proposed Airline Carrier for disclosure/information and they will correctly direct you of the process. 1st use a FAA approved locking case and contact the airline to find out their procedures and the procedures at that airport prior to arriving for your flight there will be no problems with MA or CA
