I would like to purchase a pistol online and do a transfer via an FFL shop locally. I wonder if my package is kept sealed at the FFL shop until I come to open and inspect it. Do the FFL shops have the right to open the package without my presence? I just wanted to make sure nothing is done to the gun or the gun is used for any purposes without my knowledge.

Every gun I have ever bought was opened by the FFL dealer prior to me arriving as they need to log everything in to set up the transfer, the gun is addressed to them and technically not even yours until the transfer is complete so they are within their rights to do so. All that being said, if you have doubts about an FFL or don't trust them for whatever reason, I would encourage you to find another one. I have been to several but mostly one who I have gotten to know personally and trust fully.
