Just bought a Springfield Armory 1911 Range Officer Elite Champion 45 ACP - PI9136E and tried Wilson Combat compact magazines which were too short and wouldn't click in place. I'm thinking now this will take full size 1911 magazines. Can someone confirm this? Also, I've read that wilson combat are the best mags for a 1911? They are quite expensive though. Any others that are less expensive but have sound reputation? Thanks.

Mark, yes Sir. This Pistol takes Commander sized magazines. Chip McCormick and Mec-Gars work really well.

Yes you are correct it takes full size mags (the Commander also uses full size mags) you stock mags are springfield marked mags made by  metalform I use the Mecgar mags https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/48113
