Joe, if you intend self defense, the Taurus 709 Slim would be my choice. True the Mossberg gives more available rounds but, the 9mm is the superior man stopper with fewer rounds fired. One or the other will be more important to you and if not, then perhaps both are in order. Cheers!

to totally different guns the Mossberg 715P is a range toy. it's fun to shoot and play with but its not a self defense gun you can not carry it. The 22lr round is not good for self defense or home protection. The Taurus is a better all around gun it is good for Concealed carry and home defense it is ok at the range the 9mm rounds are much better that the 22lr at home defense. If you just want a range toy that is inexpensive to shoot then the Mossberg is for you. if you want a effective defense gun the get the Taurus

Joe, 709 Slim no question. If you just want something to plink with the 715 is fun, but no real purpose but fun.

It depends what you use it for. For defense the 9mm. For full time fun the 22lr.
