Yes it is a deep rich blue and it comes in a plastic case

In S&Ws if it has a 5 (586) it's "blue" … if it has a 6 (686,642) it's "stainless steel". Or in the case of the 642 has some stainless parts (barrel, cylinder … alloy frame). S&Ws now come with a clam shell style plastic fitted box or case.
