Perry, no Sir. They are comparable in overall barrel thickness with the M400 being slightly heavier. I contacted Sig a few months ago and asked a lot of questions about the M400 barrel. After some off-the-cuff answers, some hemmin' and hawin', they finally let me speak to a person who seemed to know what they were talking about. They told me the M400 is hammer forged chrome moly vanadium, meeting the material mil-spec. It is not nitrided. It is phosphate-finished with chrome lining. They also indicated that the barrel is proof tested, though he did not know if it was magnetic particle tested (though he did say the bolt is MP tested - whether it is marked that way or not). He refused to say who Sig's supplier was.
