Rob, the CZ 75 SP-01 is fine for USPSA Competition. A Trigger job for a lighter weight DA pull would greatly enhance the effectiveness of this model for USPSA Competition. There is no restriction on the trigger pull weight of a firearm, however, the trigger mechanism must, at all times, function safely.
I'm a competitor (A class), CRO and match director for USPSA. The best place to start would be a CZ 75 Shadow or Shadow 2. If you cannot afford that you will not be able to afford to shoot competitively because the cost of ammo will quickly over run the cost of any gun. The only time you will start in DA would be in Production Division. If you shoot Limited Division you can start cocked and safety applied or decocked. The SP-01 is a fine pistol but needs some work as you know to become competitive. Stay away from decocker models because they will decock during the course of fire if you happen to put your thumb behind the decocker during recoil. We all prefer the DA/SA guns for that reason.
