Richard, The main difference between them is seen in the finish and the sights. The Beretta 92FS' standard finish is Black Bruniton, with a black synthetic grip. On the other hand, the M9's standard finish is blued with a synthetic grip. There are some standard features that are found on the M9 but are lacking in the 92FS. For example, the Beretta M9 possesses a unique M9 prefix sequence serial number and some military markings on its barrel. Details are covered in detail here : https://huntspot.com/beretta-m9-vs-92fs/
