It has the option that goes on the side. At least that's how my friend's came when I visited him in another state, because we can't have these in CA. If that's not your style you can always buy a top cover with a pic rail on it. Hope this helps.

Stephen, This rifle does not have a rail mount on it for scope mount or the set up on the side. The receiver has the holes that the mounting bracket goes in are filled with rivets.
