Ronald, I have this model rifle (as well as the Panther in 5.56mm model). The safety is more or less silent. You can "feel" it with you bare finger (no gloves) but otherwise does not make any noise. If you are worried about sound, make sure you charge the camber with a round (and put safety on of course) well before you reach the area where you intend to hunt. The sound of charging a round is relatively loud (at least to deer and alike) so it should be done well away from the hunting area. BTW, the DPMS is a good choice for an AR-10 type rifle. Lots of aftermarket customization products for it. You might also like the Diamondback AR-10 as well. Also an excellent, economical choice in the 7.62 category.
Ronald, Absolutely will hear no sound from this safety lever being moved on this rifle. If the noise of moving the safety on your rifle is main issue deer hunting wow. Move lever slow. There is no click.
