I know this is for Jason T but the 6inch is plenty. Deer are thin skinned animals with relatively shallow vitals. You should have no issues if you do your part with good shot placement. Its still fine. I imagine you won't be doing any long range hunting with that BlackHawk anyway. You will destroy a deer within 50yards with it. And even at 75yards I'd take the shot.
