You just need to remove the guide rod and slide lock lever both of which are quite easy. As for legality, I have only ever heard of restrictions on lasers in Illinois/Chicago. However, if you live in a state with rather draconian gun laws it would be worth checking with the proper authority on the matter, I would hate to give you incomplete/inaccurate information. There's no need for a gunsmith. It shouldn't make you Glock illegal unless your state has certain restrictions.
