Hello. Is the process of purchasing a used hand gun from a gun dealer the same as if one were to purchase a new handgun as far as registering the pistol is concerned? If I purchase a used gun, will it end up registered in my name? Just wondering what would happen if Uncle Sam decides one day to confiscate our guns. Thanks.

Yes, the process is the same as a new firearm purchase. You fill out exactly the same BATF paperwork Form 4473.

Yup, it ships to your FFL and at that point they do your background check and transfer it to you in your name. Only time this wouldn't happen is if its a gift from immediate family or grandparents. Gifts from family aren't required to be transferred in most states. But the recipient must be allowed to legally poses one.
