Both the model 50578 and 50579 have a 20" barrel, pistol grip option, 8 rd capacity, bead sight, and are 12ga...what is the difference?? 50579 is 500SP instead of just 500 like the 50578, but what makes it SP?

Rikiya, the only difference is the 50579 has a "Blued Finish" and the 5078 has a "Parkerized Finish".
