Honestly, you will be able to shoot 44 special, but you will have issues. In a way it is like shooting a 380 ACP out of a 9mm pistol. There's just not enough power to cycle the rounds, causing malfunctions. It's much different in a revolver. I wouldn't bother. I know some people actually practice malfunctions by purposely putting a couple of 380 ACP rounds in a full magazine of 9mm ammunition. That way they can practice clearing feeding issues, magazine issues, stovepipes, and so on. It was my pleasure to assist you.

Specials will fit into the chamber and fire but will not cycle the gun which would necessitate racking the slide between each shot. The shorter case of the Specials will also increase fouling in the chamber which will negatively affect cycling of Magnums if you switch back without cleaning the gun thoroughly first. Overall, I would not recommend it.

No sir that's not recommended. I see what you mean though about comparing to a revolver.

George, you could but you should not due to case head spacing, 44 Magnum calibrated Recoil Spring and 44 Magnum calibrated Gas Piston. Safety and Warranty reasons should be first and foremost so Magnum Research would be the best source for info. P.S. Several members in Desert Eagle forums claim to have successfully done this without issue but, I take that with a grain of salt as I was not there. Cheers and stay safe Sir.
