it depends on the gun in a pump with a 3 inch chamber it would not be a problem In some autos (Remington 11-87) with a 3 inch chamber they would all work in some of the older autos like a Remington 1100 the 2 3/4 inch shell will not cycle the action of the 3 inch gun. Over and under or side by side with a 3 inch chamber will work fine with any 3 inch or shorter shell
