Mike, there will be only a small portion of the magazine that contacts the mag well when seated. If you can find that spot, it will take just a single small layer of clear packing tape to prevent it from shooting out. It will usually be the slightly worn area on the body of the magazine. Be safe!

I use the kits that Rudy linked and I have never damaged a magazine by letting the free fall on dirt or gravel
