Hi, Richard. These use Fiber-Optic light gathering material. As long as there is ambient light they brighten. If no light they appear mono-color.
They will exceed your expectations for sure. But for this price, they'd better! And they will.
The RMR is powered by a single CR2032 battery and uses an LED that automatically adjusts brightness to ambient light. The TA31F-G ACOG is battery free and uses fiber-optics to gather light to illuminate the chevron. When little to no light is available it uses a tritium lantern to illuminate the chevron. Also since the chevron is etched it will not washout like some other optics (Mepro M21) do when shooting from dark areas into light. Recently purchased one myself, love it. The GDI (Global Defense Industries) QD mounts are excellent and are a steal.
