No advantage its just because some of us will not carry a gun that does not have a thumb safety. its just another safety device and is no substitute for the real safety which is between your ears. IE dont touch the trigger until you are ready to shoot

Jack, there are both pros and cons Sir. Pros it helps prevent accidental discharge of the weapon. Con if you do not have your muscle memory built up that you release the safety when ready to fire you will probably forget to disengage the safety in the heat of the moment if you ever have to use the pistol for personal defense and this will leave you in a real bad situation and may even cost you your life. If you buy a gun with out an external safety or safety on the trigger (ie Glock) remember the #1 rule of gun safety never put your finger on the trigger till you are ready to fire. The most efficient safety for any firearm is located between your ears.

For people used to having thumb safety like 1911s. it's a feature you're already used to.
