Steven, whenever possible, I recommend the manual safety version unless it is not available on a particular series of handguns. It is an extra layer of safety/protection and is easily accompanied for usage wise with proper training.

it you choice I prefer a safety but that is because I carry a 1911 and I have trained with removing a safety for many years
