Jill, it is all in the loading of specific ammunition. All stainless steel for weight for less recoil (https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/55267/taurus+856+stainless+steel+6+round+38+spc+w%2ffixed+sights%2f2%22+barrel%2fstainless) Standard 38 Special and not +P rated ammunition will be fine. I would go with a light weight bullet that is fast and produces low recoil like : https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/411555911/hornady+90300le+critical+defense+lite+38spl+90gr+ftx+25ct ------------- Buds has it for Qualified Professional Only but you can find it here for us regular folk : https://ammoseek.com/ammo/38-special?ikw=ftx&schnozz=0vrnlzb
Yes the heavier the gun the less recoil it will have I would recommend a 357 revolver shooting 38 special rounds like this Taurus https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/31302/taurus+66b4+m66+7rd+357+mag+4%22 and the federal low recoil hydra shoks https://www.federalpremium.com/handgun/premium-personal-defense/personal-defense-hydra-shok-low-recoil/11-PD38HS3+H.html
