A firearm chambered for 5.56 will also shoot a .223. A firearm chambered for .223 should not use a 5.56 round. So you would be able to shoot .223 through this firearm as is it chambered for 5.56. Hope that helps!

To clarify: Too many people tell you "they're the same round" Not true. .223 will shoot from a weapon designated as 5.56. But not the other way around.
