John, This optic is more then enough for a plinking gun. The 1 power will be good to 100 yards+.

I would want something with magnification for my definition of plinking....you can be reasonably accurate out to 75-100 yards but a 1 MOA dot will blot out a 1" diameter circle at 100 yards.....I would want something with variable magnification and a fine reticle that won't cover my target entirely.....a 2-7 rimfire scope would be perfect....and it's parallax adjusted at 50 yards which is perfect for a .22
