Your best bet is to check out the book that came with the gun, because you don't list the brand or gauge in your question. But If you just went on line and bought a new gun you can bet that the barrel is a smooth bore without a choke. The choke is something that you buy and put in the gun yourself. Take the gun to your nearest gunstore and ask them they will be able to help you with any question that you may have. Good Luck and safe shooting.
Lucas, we'll need some more information about your shotgun. Do you have the box for the gun listing the brand and model number? There are many variations in the shotgun world. You can remove the barrel and look down it to see if it's rifled. If it has interchangeable chokes there is a marking system used - 1 notch= Full choke, 2 notches = improved modified, 3 notches = modified and 4 notches = improved cylinder......there are other chokes out there but they aren't very common.
Lucas, no shotgun specified my man. Just re-post with the model or item number for an accurate answer. cheers and you and yours stay safe!
