I know I have to fax my food info for ammo purchases, but do I have to fax it for a firearm purchase considering my ffl is going to look at it anyway before I can get my firearm

yes it must be sent to Buds to purchase a firearm "Illinois State Restrictions:  
 
Customers must possess a valid Illinois FOID (Firearm Owner's ID) card to purchase firearms or ammunition anywhere in Illinois.
