Yes. 223 is actually loaded to lower pressure than 5.56 and can be fired safely through this rifle.

Yes, a 5.56 NATO chambered weapon can safely fire .223 Remington also. The reverse may not be true. Due to potentially higher pressure of the 5.56 NATO only .223 Remington be fired in .223 chambered weapons.

You can fire both. I actually go with whatever I have more of on hand to waste.
