+P are rounds with extra powder, so anything less than that will work as well.
It would be like shooting 38s in a 357. Less pressure will not hurt the revolver. This revolver does not say it is +P rated.
William, nothing. .38 Special has a maximum pressure of 17,000 PSI, .38 Special +P is 20,000 PSI. You can certainly fire the less powerful standard 38 Special Load in a +P rated revolver such as the M642. It will be milder shooting and is recommended for the recoil sensitive and has less muzzle blast which is beneficial in an indoor shooting/defense scenario where you might not have time for hearing protection.
