Please excuse the inexperience shown by this question. I've never had a Sig or any SA/DA handgun before. So is the basic operation such that if you want to carry a round in the chamber, you work the slide loading the top round from the magazine, then "De-cock" it for carry? Then if needed in a situation, just thumb the hammer back into fully cocked position, and you're ready?

It is a SA/DA so pull the trigger and double action it.

just pull the trigger the DA mode will pull back the hammer and release it then the next shot will be in SA mode

Patrick, this is exactly correct. Same basic operation as a single/double action revolver. Cocked and Locked carry recommended but, hammer down carry for double action 1st trigger pull also works.
