Can anyone tell me a good ammo for my mossberg 500 chainsaw? Intended use is for home and self defense. I am female so would rather something with less recoil but don't want to pay too much either. I also want to be able to hunt with it if necessary.

For home and self defense #4 birdshot.  Wont penetrate your walls as bad as #4buckshot.  If you are hunting with this, then food is not available.  Slugs, and hunt deer.  You will not get to aim, so practice.

Tierney, I would recommend Number 4 Buckshot. Personally, I use different ammunitions in my home defense shotgun. My first 2 shots are less than lethal bean bags. Followed by that are 4 #6 birdshot. Birdshot will not penetrate walls. The likelihood of a slug or 00 buckshot going through different objects are higher compared to a birdshot. That's my preference. Use what you train with the most. Try out different kinds of ammunition and find one you like. It was my pleasure to assist you.
