That is just for cleaning pistols in calibers 9mm, 40, and 45. It will not work for rifles.

just for handguns because the rod is not long enough to go through the riffle barrel

The main issue would be the length of the rod itself, with the extension it would only end up being about 7.5" which wouldn't be enough for a 16" or longer rifle barrel.

This is specifically made for pistols. Rifles will require longer rods. The rods on this will be too short to go through a rifle. If you buy this make sure to pick up rod extensions. It was my pleasure to assist you.
