Allan, I have two and they work well after I cleaned and tuned them up. They are Surplus pistols but just thoroughly clean/inspect and test with your preferred self defense ammunition and you will be just fine. Cheers and stay safe!

Allan, If your comfortable with an 8 round capacity surplus pistol as your home defense weapon then yes this firearm will work for that.
