Jeremy, It is possible, but a pain. Just put an inexpensive red dot optic on your Ruger American rifle.

Jeremy, this should not be a problem for a good gunsmith. You could also mount a Picatinny Rail if not already to use any of the hundreds of AR style rear sights or peep sight.
