Clifton, it is fine for the Shield and will have high velocity, low recoil and high terminal performance in the shorter barrel. This will yield faster follow up shot accuracy as well. Hi, While this round would function perfectly fine from M&P 45 Shield, it is expensive and can be unreliable. I recommend looking at Federal .45 ACP 230 gr HST, Speer .45 ACP 230 gr Gold Dot, or Hornady critical duty 45 acp. These round are extremely popular for self defense. They are cheaper and much more reliable in my opinion. Cheers.
