Beth, you will want something that is calibrated close to 308/30-06 ballistics such as the TruGlo : https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/712015252/truglo+scope+omnia+4-16x44+30mm+ir+pkg ------------ Sure there are better more expensive scopes but this gives a great bang for the buck for what you get.
Hi, That depends on the magnification you want to get. Most hunter I know sticks to 3-9x scope. Target shooting I know usually goes for a bit more, like 4-12x magnification. Vortex Optics Crossfire II 3-9x40mm and Vortex Optics Diamondback/Optics Crossfire II 4-12x40mm. Those are affordable and reliable. Cheers.
I like and have had great luck with this simmons scope the 50 mm size give it great light gathering for low light hunting conditions https://www.budsgunshop.com/product_info.php/products_id/52362/simmons+3-9x50+8+point+riflescope%2ftruplex+reticle%2fhydroshiel
