Hi, Not much info out there about S&W Model 48 but from what I know it was built from a modified K-frame. It used to be called K-22 Masterpiece. The butt design is square. I hope this helps.

Robert, the S&W Model 48 is built on a K-Frame and Square Butt although a few Round Butts exist. Cheers and stay safe!
