It's my understanding that the 10 round model and the 16 round model are identical pistols, and only the magazines are of different capacity. Is this true?

Yes the pistol itself is the same unless it's a threaded barrel variant. just one model is for free states the other is for states like the communist state of NY that's has a 10rd mag cap.
