Hi, Are you intending to conceal carry or just have a range/home defense gun? If you want to conceal carry then P365 going to be better. Potentially even better than the P320 compact. For range/home defense gun, its P320 all the way. Some people report issue with P320 accidental discharge (particularly when drop). As long as there is no damage on the pistol, I do recommend a used pistol if you can save a hundred dollars or more on it. I'm not sure about NYS but I know you need to get a concealed carry permit first in order to purchase a pistol (I can be wrong..check with your FFL). So, I would get my concealed carry permit first, before I buy. I hope this helps.
John, the Sig P320 is just as robust as the P365 and much more ergonomic as far as hand fit. Folks tend to shoot pistols that are comfortable more accurately as you subconsciously make fewer hand adjustments and tend to have a more consistent shooting grip. Used can be a bargain if you find the right handgun but, I like to start things anew and not inherit someones potential headache. Reliable well shooting firearms tend to stay with said owner. Get your Concealed Carry Permit as it is a leg up when purchasing firearms and the experience is invaluable for self defense training and being well versed in State Gun Laws.
John, Buy what you like. Get the P320 and P365. P320 is a great firearm no matter what all the nay sayers from the inner tube say. Yes the red dot on the RX is worth it if you want that option. Not for me though. Pre owned or used guns can be a great value if you know what you are looking for. If you can find a red box factory refurbished Sig P320 you will be very satisfied. Love my P320s and the P365. Both have their purposes, but are both fantastic handguns. Get your carry permit as soon as you can, Yesterday was not soon enough.
