35 Whelen is a significantly longer cartridge than 35 Remington so it wouldn't fit in the chamber. Not to mention the fact that it is a significantly higher pressure cartridge, nearly double, and would not be safe to fire in anything designed for 35 Remington.
Michael, absolutely not Sir. Different case lengths and operating pressures make this a powder keg in the Marlin 336. Cheers and stay safe!
The 35 Whelen produces too much pressure to be used in a Marlin levergun. It probably wouldn't chamber anyway--cartirdge dimensions for both calibers are very different.
